Histology Core Laboratory
Michael Talbert, MD, Medical DirectorS. Terence Dunn, Ph.D., Scientific Director
The Histology Core Laboratory provides histology services for researchers on the OUHSC campus and elsewhere, including processing, sectioning, regular histological and specialty staining of tissues, and immunocytochemistries. The lab is staffed by one registered histotechnician.
Laboratory services are available from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. Turn-around time for services depends on time of receipt of specimen, order size, types of staining procedures requested, etc., but is generally around 12 to 36 hrs.
Charges for services are as follows:

Immunohistochemical Staining Request Form
This PDF form is required for all Immunohistochemical Stains. The form is fillable; enter the order quantity in the appropriate boxes, and the form will automatically return the total number of antibodies ordered. After completing the form, print it and send it with your samples.
The Immunohistochemical Laboratory recently installed a new immunostainer (Ventana Benchmark XT) with larger capacity and updated software application. Along with this, we are also upgrading our detection kit by making the switch from the more traditional Avidin-Biotin based system to the new state-of-the-art multimer/polymer based assay, which I think was long overdue. The detection kit (Ultraview) is reported to be more sensitive in detecting the antigens recognized by primary antibody, requires shorter incubation times while completely eliminating the requirement of biotin block. The result is a better overall staining and much less background.
